In Lebanon, the humanitarian crisis is worsening every day. The escalation of hostilities has forced hundreds of thousands of families to flee their homes. The numbers continue to rise:
Over one million people registered as internally displaced, including 285,600 children
130,715 people in collective shelters (32,901 families)
There are 620 temporary shelters open across the country, but more than 500 are already full
The death toll has reached 850 people
Many families have lost everything and are seeking refuge in schools, public buildings, or even outdoors. Some sleep in tents exposed to the elements, struggling with heavy rain, strong winds, and freezing winter conditions. In Beirut, around 1,000 people live under such harsh circumstances — rain floods the tents, worsening an already dire situation.
The humanitarian situation is critical and deteriorating rapidly. Shelter capacity is limited, rental prices are rising, and host communities are overwhelmed. Yet many families prefer to stay near Beirut to have access to services and remain relatively close to their abandoned homes.
In the Akkar region, where PCPM is responding to the crisis, over 10,000 people have arrived, but only about 3,000 have found shelter in temporary housing centers. Of the 21 centers, 17 are already completely full. We continue to provide humanitarian assistance, delivering 200 hot meals twice daily.
